‘Rural Innovative TechnologZ’ (RITZ), organised by the IIT Madras Rural Technology Action Group - Tamil Nadu (RuTAG-TN). Finally 11 teams from seven colleges were called to demonstrate their models to solve the rural problems.

The teams were given three problem statements - developing a solar drier for agricultural produce, a mechanized palm tree climber, and a mechanized vegetable slicer for large-scale rural applications.

Currently, MIT engineers have developed Tattoo using the Electronic and Smart Microphone Technologies. This type of tattoos MIT engineers claim that Tattoos is sensitive to temptations such as cold, heat, and touch-sensation. These tattoos, which are sensitive to the skin, are made of bacterial cells. There are no side effects. These tattoos are now starting to come out of foreign youth.

   The Coimbatore Climbing Club in association with the Tamil Nadu Forest Department organised a trek to the Siruvani Water Purification Plant near Chadivayal forests in the outskirts of the city on Jan7, 2018.

Coimbatore News - Kovai Heritage Trek

Around 40 people from the city participated in the trek that was aimed at sensitizing people about Siruvani water, which is considered to be one of the tastiest waters in the world. 

   Siruvani water gets its taste from the Herbs in the forests in Western Ghats from where the water originates. The water has rich Medicinal value as it travels through a forest rich with Herbal Plants and the Oxygen Content is also high in this water. We should try to protect the forest which gives the water. People should be responsible in safeguarding the wildlife and flora of the forests.

On January 31, around midnight, the full moon will be a Blue Moon and a Blood Moon.

The Blue Moon comes as the second full moon in a month. That happens every two and half years once, hence it called as "Once in a Blue Moon". 

And with Earth in between the Sun and the Moon, Sunlight has to pass through the Earth's atmosphere, which scatters the green to violet light more than it scatters the red light. So the Moon appears red, called as a Blood Moon.

That is three big Moon moments on one glorious night for Skywatchers. The best place to see it will be in central and eastern Asia, Indonesia, New Zealand and Australia.

Robotic New Frontiers Mission

NASA hosts a future Robotic Mission in our Solar System called "New Frontiers". It picks two finalists in a competition, one is returning comet sample to Earth and another is to explore different parts of Saturn’s moon Titan.

The First Mission, spearheaded by Steve Squyres at Cornell University. This mission will collect the organic compounds which constitute the building blocks of life in order to try to understand how comets contributed to life on Earth.

International News

The Second Mission, spearheaded by Elizabeth Turtle at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, is called Dragonfly. It’ll involve sending a helicopter-like robot to the surface of Titan, one of Saturn’s moons.

So far, three missions have been created through the New Frontiers program and are currently exploring the Solar System. NASA started accepting proposals for a Fourth Mission in December of last year, and all submissions had to be sent in by April 28th.

Scientists on Nasa’s Kepler mission have spotted an eighth planet around a distant star, making it the first alien solar system known to host as many planets as our own.

The new found world orbits a star named Kepler 90 which is larger and hotter than the sun and lies 2,500 light years from Earth in the constellation of Draco. A record-tying eighth planet has been found in a faraway solar system, matching our own in number. Even more amazing, machines and not humans made the discovery. NASA joined with Google on Thursday to announce the finding. This eighth planet orbits the star known as Kepler-90. Like Earth, this new planet, Kepler-90i, is the third rock from its sun.
