An Inter-State Intercollegiate Tournament for Agricultural Colleges held at Annamalai University between March 1-3. The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University Basketball team has won the Winners Rolling Trophy. Both Men & Women teams have won the Trophy. Volleyball Men's team won the Runners Rolling Trophy in SPORAG.

Butterflies glance of TNFD survey

100 butterflies spotted during survey in Coimbatore


According to Mohanprasath from the Act for Butterflies NGO that jointly organised the survey along with the Tamil Nadu Forest Department. A species of Dragon fly was added to the checklist of Coimbatore increasing the number of recorded Odonates from 79 to 80.

Coimbatore has a list of 230 Butterfly Species spotted in different areas over different time. The team which spotted the maximum number were given a special cash prize in a ceremony held at Tamil Nadu Forest College campus in the city.

Butterfly Species including Orange awlet, Common Yellow breasted flat, Southern Birdwing, Nilgiri Tiger, Autumn leaf and Plains Blue Royal were spotted during the survey.

Rural Innovative TechnologZ’ (RITZ), organised by the IIT Madras Rural Technology Action Group - Tamil Nadu (RuTAG-TN). Finally 11 teams from seven colleges were called to demonstrate their models to solve the rural problems.

The teams were given three problem statements - developing a solar drier for agricultural produce, a mechanized palm tree climber, and a mechanized vegetable slicer for large-scale rural applications.

   The Coimbatore Climbing Club in association with the Tamil Nadu Forest Department organised a trek to the Siruvani Water Purification Plant near Chadivayal forests in the outskirts of the city on Jan7, 2018.

Around 40 people from the city participated in the trek that was aimed at sensitizing people about Siruvani water, which is considered to be one of the tastiest waters in the world.

The water has rich Medicinal value as it travels through a forest rich with Herbal Plants and the Oxygen Content is also high in this water. We should try to protect the forest which gives the water.
