The two days Butterfly - Dragon Fly and Damsel Fly Survey had fetched some wonderful results along with spotting 100 butterflies and 35 Odonates here in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India

100 butterflies spotted during survey in Coimbatore


According to Mohanprasath from the Act for Butterflies NGO that jointly organised the survey along with the Tamil Nadu Forest Department. A species of Dragon fly was added to the checklist of Coimbatore increasing the number of recorded Odonates from 79 to 80.

Coimbatore has a list of 230 Butterfly Species spotted in different areas over different time. The team which spotted the maximum number were given a special cash prize in a ceremony held at Tamil Nadu Forest College campus in the city.

Butterfly Species including Orange awlet, Common Yellow breasted flat, Southern Birdwing, Nilgiri Tiger, Autumn leaf and Plains Blue Royal were spotted during the survey.
